Do Red Dots Help Sell Pictures?

I received an email
recently from The Self-Styled  Mr Smith

You    remember    the chap I am sure,   He of  Snail Sex fame who appeared in this very     blog

This is what he said

"I have been to a few print exhibitions in my time. I expect you have too.  Has it ever struck you, as it did me the other day, how popular the prints are that have a small red dot on them?
They always seem to be the ones that sell.
Looking through your website I couldn't see that you had included any little red dots.  There maybe an artistic reason for this that I, perhaps, would not appreciate, but I thought I would raise the matter with the idea that you may, in future consider including the odd little red dot in one of the bottom corners of a few of your offerings, to see if it helps to sell the prints for you.
Please don't take this amiss.  I would hate you to think that I want to interfere in the creative process, or any other of your processes."

With kind regards,
S.S. Mr. S.

This is Food   For   thought   or   is there   considerably less to this than meets the eye?

So   I have decided    to take    Mr    Smith's   good   advice

to see if it    works

Here   are a few   of My    images with added      majikal red    dots

Let us see if the red spots   before   our   very    eyes    improve    sales

British Food

Nose Island

Madame Naughty Nips

Mr Mark Featherhead

Jug Woman 1 (after Picasso)

Now      here is the    rub

It's    come    to my notice     whilst     writing    this post

that two of my most popular    images   have the said red dots built in

so to speak

Master Jack and the Haws

             and

Crow Red Berry

So   now     I am  thinking  perhaps there is considerably more than meets the eye

to    Mr Smith's     idea       than I  first    thought . . .

As a post script    to the postscript    I would like to show Mr Smith's   Very Own

offering     his digital work     entitled        SOLD

SOLD by Mr Smith

Editors Note

Mr S mith would like
me   to communicate   the fact
that his work  SOLD
is
in fact For Sale
Please see his comment on this post

  3. Well, I must say, all this publicity is most unexpected. I do hope my little idea does boost sales for you, Paul Biddle.
Whilst we're on the subject of sales please put me down for a round dozen of the print with the dot on the nose. It does so remind me of my grandmother, who God rest her soul, was similarly afflicted.
I wonder if you would indulge me further in order to make the point that my SOLD is not actually sold. Well, of course it is SOLD, but there again it isn't. I hope that clarifies things. But there again is it actually for sale? It certainly can't be sold unless it is. I shall have think about that.
    Kind regards, Mr Smith.

  4. Dear Mr Smith, thank you for your order. I have dispatched a flotilla of Nose Islands into the Postal Lanes for your pleasure and delectation.
Your Grandmother did indeed model for Nose Island.
    Kind Regards, Paul Biddle.

  5. Dear PB, I've just noticed that you've put SOLD on the market. I can see that my attempt at clarification has not been a great success. The point I was trying to make is that SOLD is not sold and is not, as yet even potentially sold, as it is not being sold by me, either in the past or present, although, of course, SOLD is by me. Now do you see.
I do hope the followers of this blogg have taken the time to visit your website, where such delights as Two Loaves and Three Slices whet the Photophillic appetite. Spendid works which are, I believe, for sale?

  6. Dear Mr Biddle
I would very much like a pleasing red dot to wear upon my nose - at a jaunty angle - like Mr Smith's grandmama.
I feel it might make myself and my angles an awful lot brighter.

  7. Dear Hieronymous
Thank you for ordering a pleasing red dot to wear upon your nose.Unfortunately due to their unadulterated popularity and high demand we only have Roving Red Dots available at this time. As you know the Roving variety of dot cannot be trusted to perch in any one place and often holiday on other people's spectacular features.

  8. Dear Mr. Biddle,
I have read the above posts with great interest. Due to the understandable dearth of red dots and the unpredictable nature of the Roving Red Dots, I encourage you to consider the less coveted yet still quite auspicious half red dot. In lieu of this, there yet exists the possibility of the green dot which, although the least valued of the four, should not be entirely overlooked.
    Yours sincerely,
